DOOM LOUNGE NITE AT TWILITE LOUNGE WITH JAZZ JAGUARS AND THE 8EAUT1FUL5
NAVIGATE BY YEAR 2020 2019 2018

This is the place for podcasts from the Twilite Lounge Wednesday Jazz Jaguars Doom Lounge Nite and the Sunday Electronic Doom Lounge Night  Hosted By DJ DaiOuJou/Falchion B/Twinbee.

The pic to the left is of VHS VIC who performed there, with David Payne, the curator of the 2 nites, with help from Cecil of PK Opal and from Falchion B and Nora Price.

It’s called “Doom Lounge Nite” originally because Jazz Jaguars is a sight-reading group in the jazz tradition, playing lounge music, but fresh reading is difficult, so we played everything slow- which in musical terms is Largo or in heavy metal, Doom. The podcast is recorded live, with various hosts, some with very little editing, some with a lot.

Wednesday nights are hosted by the Jazz Jaguars. Jazz Jagz is currently Halee Jean on Bass, Nora Price on drums and singing, and David Payne on guitar and singing.
On older recordings here, it’s usually Halee Jean and Nora Price on drums, Brian Lord on bass, Christy Matthews on guitar and David Payne and Nick Niehart on singing and guitar/more, and Carly Haldeman on news reporting. Also, newest Jazz Jagz bandmember, Dr. Ambientizer is live on DJ’d Stolen Samples on Wednesday nights.

Sunday nights are hosted by the famous DJ’s, DJ DaiOuJou, Falchion B, and Twinbee.
DJ DaiOuJou sings and plays keytar, Falchion B plays synths, Twinbee plays bass. Josh Stippich and Pearl Laterza manage.

Our mission statement is “1. Get permission from Twilite Lounge to curate music that is in synergy with the rest of the bar, in the back room, neither background nor foreground. All bands plug directly into the PA and use our soft drumset. The night is formalized by our tight schedule and the volume limits, which are crucial for the synergy with the other activities at the bar, and which are great for fostering creativity as music groups step out of their comfort zones to participate.
2. Modern/Feminist of course, with a strong intention to diversify that particular bar, with the philosophy that the healthiest ecosystem is the most diverse one. We’re also anti-humanists (anti-animalists) who worship the SAIM.
3. Bands profit share with alcohol and the hosts have special arrangements for Lyfts. We believe that artistic capitalism and labor capitalism are two different things, and never the twain shall meet. Anyone can play at Doom Lounge Nite if they meet the all the above requirements.
4. Shine our success as an example to other bars and musicians that music culture can thrive in our community, whether labor or artistically driven, and that fine art can me normalized as well as romanticized. And that all art is Fine.

WEDNESDAY 2020 03 11 Fourth Dimension

We were lucky enough to have Fourth Dimension play. Falchion B played drums and brought his fancy mixer, so these tracks sound a little different than usual (there were 13 of them at once instead of 2). Nora led the last set after a little Red Bennies practice with Pearl. Corona virus kept the bar empty for the first couple hours.

SUNDAY 2020 03 07 DR. Ambientizer, Dusk, Pet Library

DR. Ambientizer, great set. Dusk great set. Pet Library, great set. Falchion B made a portable drumset in his metal shop and this is the unveiling of that drumset.

WEDNESDAY 2020 03 04 Kate Ledeuce, The Greylings, Nora in charge or Jazz Jagz

There was something strange about the routine, and as often happens, the recorder didn’t get pushed, so the first set of Jagz and the full set of DOGOR + ASH BASS didn’t get recorded. DOGOR + ASH BASS was fantastic, I just hope they’ll play again so I can get it recorded. The rest were amazing, too.

*SPECIAL BONUS* Hoofless, The 8EAUT1FUL5, and Durian Durian at Finch Lane Art Gallery

Nora Price and Emily Snow of Durian Durian applied to to a “Flash Show”, which is a short gallery show picked from public applications that Finch Lane Gallery does. Finch Lane is the gallery that holds the offices of the Salt Lake Arts Council, funded by the government (I’m just guessing). Anyways, Nora and Emily with help from Koty and Dawn Borchardt, who made a short film of Emily and Nora, filled the gallery with pieces revolving around Durian Durian and dance, and then to celebrate the installations, they organized a few great concerts at the gallery. This is the 2nd one, featuring Hoofless with the new and fuller lineup, The 8EAUt1FUL5, and Durian Durian with extra dancers (but you can’t see them).— At the last minute, I’ve switched out the Hoofless recording for one from Diabolical Records a week before because of some mic probs. So this is a pastiche.

Pet Library is the best. Plus L+M, who’s Mariah Del Rio from Philidelphia who played by herself was back with her bandmate. Then Glorp who breaks our no amp rule so the only thing you can hear is the synthesizer, but I left it here to punish them for breaking the rule. If they’d played on a wednesday, we’d have had a room mic, but they don’t think about these things while they’re rocking out.

WEDNESDAY 2020 02 12 Mananero, Lord Vox

Mananero and Lord Vox brang the rock, so recordings are a little heinous- we try to keep all the music lounge sensitive over there. Also, Falchion B played some shop beats.

SUNDAY 2020 01 19 Jesse Kohn

Jesse Kohn played for the first time at twilite (I think it was the first time). One guest rapper at the beginning and one guest singer at the end and lots of electric guitars.

Peachy Fingernail’s first time at Doom Lounge, PK Opal with backup band, great night.

WEDNESDAY 2020 01 08 Mariah Del Rio, ROFL Copter Night of Yucks feat: @A Girl at the Bar, Josh Brown

This is a long one, with lots of talking and Dr. Ambientizer in between some songs, plus Falchion B just released an album, but if you wait long enough, you’ll hear Mariah Del Rio play some songs by herself, and the ROFL Copter Night of Yucks, which had been booked for months, but now that I’m thinking about it, I don’t think Carl Merrill made it that night.

WEDNESDAY 2020 01 01 Matt’s Solo Project, Josh Brown Comedy Hour

This night, Matt’s Solo Project played and Josh Brown Comedy Hour, it was a great night.

*link Broken- looking for lost room mic audio* This is an opera that the 8eaut1ful5 got to be part of, it’s a political drama about the Utah national parks loosing their government funding. Each park was played by a different band, installed into single costumes (or a single costume) to look like the park, and then represented emotionally and visually by dancers.
